Applications

The Exeo PROCEDO System is the most versatile integration platform available

The Exeo PROCEDO System can support a broad range of services, all provided by a single controller model. Only the configurations differ in order to perform the requested services according to the local requirements and tasks assigned to each controller. The components' deployment sequence remains unchanged regardless of the customer's basic need and the final Exeo PROCEDO solution implemented.

The types of systems that can be commissioned based on the Exeo PROCEDO System integration platform can be grouped in four main categories. The sections on this page provide an overview of each category.

Access Control

Controlling access can be as simple as having a security guard compare a person to a picture on file, and as complex as requiring an electronic ID and personal code and picture ID (and/or other biometric information).

The areas for which access is to be controlled also vary from one building to the next. From front door only to individual office doors being controlled for access only by the normal occupants, there is a range of capabilities to consider. The ability to group users in terms of access privileges, and the need to provide access to certain persons to a select set of rooms or areas, also play a role in the design of the access control system.

The level of control and the locations to be controlled depend on the specific requirements of each project, so it is critical to have an integration platform that can readily adapt to varying demands from building owners and managers. And, ideally, this integration platform should be able to evolve, to do more over time, instead of needing to be replaced altogether.

Intrusion Detection and Security

An effective security system should at least detect intrusions when premises are not supposed to be occupied, and send the alarm to personnel or police for a prompt response. But nowadays it should be possible to do far more. For instance, with virtually limitless partitioning of the system, areas as small as a single office (or a single zone) can effectively be “armed” during the day even as neighboring areas are occupied. Many such partitions, belonging to a single business or to many small ones, for instance, can appear as a single system for alarm reporting purposes yet provide locally the full extent of security services expected by the users.

The choice of an intrusion detection solution goes beyond support for the majority of security accessories available on the market. The architecture of the solution and its capabilities in terms of number of zones supported and partitions that can be armed independently are key considerations. As should be the ease with which system administrators can assign and remove security codes to users, and monitor the system's integrity to ensure no break-in attempt or unauthorized presence will go unnoticed.

Energy Management

Generally speaking, energy management includes all means and methods used with the specific aim of minimizing energy (and possibly other resources') usage of a house or building. In the context of building systems and solutions, it is the use of automated commands on services such as lighting control, climate control (heating, ventilation, air conditioning), as well as on equipment and mechanical devices (elevators, escalators, pumps for fountains, etc.), according to schedules and/or conditions resulting from the presence of users and the real need for those services.

Presence, in this context, can be verified via the activation of the services with an electronic ID, the opening of a door, or the verification that motion sensors are being triggered on a regular basis. There is therefore a natural fit between energy management and the means put in place to control access and to provide intrusion detection… Very few integration platforms can exploit this natural fit without becoming prohibitively expensive.

Many talk about Building Automation Systems when discussing the above. For Exeo, building automation is a means to an end, not the end itself. So we talk about energy management since what the systems really aim to achieve is a more efficient building, less expensive to own and operate, and more respectful of the environment on a daily basis.

Integrated Solutions

An integrated solution is essentially any system that includes more than one of the categories of systems described above. It is increasingly common to encounter systems that provide access control and a security system linked to an alarm central, or controlled access with video surveillance, but very few systems are able to integrate the intrusion detection and access control capabilities with truly effective energy management methods.

This is precisely where the Exeo PROCEDO System shines. Come back to this section soon to find out just how easy it is to put in place a truly integrated system that does the job today, and goes beyond for the future.
